Sampler of the Season: Autumn and something new

Hello!
I finish this sampler in September and since then I stitch a little in other project, but it looks I lost my stitching mojo…

First, let me show you my Autumn Sampler!

Model from With thy Needle & Thread – Sampler Of The Season: Autumn.
Stitched on 40 count Expresso linen by R&R Reproductions using The Gentle Arts and Weeks Dye Works.
I replaced Wood Trail from Gentle Art Shaker to Swamp Water from Weeks Dye Works.

More photos of the Sampler:

I love the birds and  the squirrels on the top of the tree are adorable.

The rooster and the chicken are funny, I think they want to eat apples!

I have the others three Sampler of The Seasons, during the progress of the piece I still thought about stitch the Winter Sampler on Winter time, but I think I will stitch next year the Spring Sampler.

Please note that my apple trees (under the little house) on the sampler are stitched in a different area. The linen run out when I pressed the linen, I am a hand stitcher and sometimes I press my fabric during the progress of stitching. Please be careful with steam in some hand dyed fabrics.

I mentioned that I was not stitching so much, well, I decided to learn how to knit.
I tried to learn two years ago unsuccessfully.
Some stitching friends on blogs and Instagram they are showing some beautiful projects and that give me courage to try again. So, thank you! 😉

I picked up my yarn and needles and watch some Youtube videos.
I’m using the Portuguese Knitting Style, for me this really works. I grew up watching my mother, grandmothers and aunts doing that, so it looks more natural for me.

I give you the VeryPink Knits Youtube Channel link if you want to see how it works.

I can now say that I’m able to cast-on, knit stitch and purl stitch! It is a long process, since I have to practice more, particularly on my tension.

I choose my first project, a beautiful and a beginner scarf on Ravelry, the Beginner’s Stitch Sampler Scarf by Kristina Tucker and I purchased needles and yarn.

I really hope to show you the scarf soon!

Yesterday I separated a new small project of cross stitch, I hope that the stitching mojo come back soon.

Thank you so much for your visit and your comments! Have a wonderful day!

Betsey Snyder, 1822

Hi everyone,
Time for an update: a beautiful sampler and a bad finishing!

I decided to stitch this small sampler… well my version of the original sampler.

Model from With thy Needle & Thread – Betsey Snyder, 1822.
Stitched on 36 count American Chestnut linen by R&R Reproductions using the recommended threads.

I leaved out the name of the girl who stitched this sampler and date/year (Betsey Snyder Sampler Made 30 Sept 1822).
But I decided to stitch the “M”, “O” and “a” like charted. “M” and “O”, using half stitches and the letter “a” is incompleted and is stitched with full cross and half stitches.

The alphabet is beautiful, some of the letters are stitched with Smyrna stitch.

Look at this dog! So pretty!

And now … well I had a bad finishing…

At first I thought of using drawn thread embroidery, using hemstitch. But I decided to sew bias tape in the same colour palette of the sampler.

On my first attempt two corners were bad… and I decided to rip out and sew again… and now I have a ugly corner and the bias tape is not straight… Lesson learned, when I’m tired I need to stop… I hope to fix this soon… Now for some reason this ugly finishing makes me laugh.

Thanks for stopping by today! Happy stitching,
Lili
